- Object description
- Incurved rim with straight wall; low, convex body; flaring ring base. Soft, buff clay; matt, buff slip; lustrous, black paint, almost entirely misfired to red. Interior painted; vertical strokes on rim wall; on upper body frieze between bands: four pairs of opposed sphinxes with long hair and cross-hatched polos, between two of the pairs are large lotus-palmette ornaments - incised details, blobs and rosettes as filling ornaments; on mid/lower body a similar frieze but without the lotus-palmette ornaments; below this a band and base rays; base painted; broad band on bottom.
