- Object description
- Neck amphora. Wide, overhanging rim in three degrees; concave neck with three groups of two grooves; sloping shoulder; ovoid body; thick, vertical, twisted handles from upper neck to shoulder; masks at base of handles; large part of body ribbed – ribbing interrupted at upper body by six moulded, female figures and below these by a smooth band; area beneath handles smooth; short stem; flange between stem and base; torus base. Yellowish brown clay; black glaze; added white. Stamped palmettes (in negative) on edge of rim; on neck a spray of ivy – white leaves and berries, incised stem; above and below a row of white dots; another spray of ivy framed by rows of white dots encircles the smooth band on body; underside reserved.
