Object description: Plain rim; wide, very shallow bowl; P-shaped handles below rim; concave stem; slightly stepped disc base. Red clay; black glaze; ochre wash. On floor centre a man (Achilles), completely wrapped in a himation, is seated on a klismos; he holds a staff in his left hand; in the upper field to the right part of a suspended, circular shield is visible; the backrest and the back legs of the chair are shown in a perspective view; a meander border between reserved bands surrounds the tondo; inside of handles and handle panels reserved; reserved band on base top; reserved edge of base/band on underside; reserved centre on underside.

Description: You will find parts of the Greek and Roman collections along one side of the central hall. One section highlights the ancient mythology. Below are pottery and sculpture with motifs taken from the Greek myths, such as the deities Athena, Apollo and Artemis, and the heroes Achilles, Heracles, Orpheus and exciting adventures. Also the symposium, the Greek men's drinking, is depicted in a booth . Here you will find all the different parts of tableware and many images of Dionysos , the god of wine.

Hjältemonter.; A kylix (pl. kylikes) is a relatively shallow drinking vessel, typically raised on a stem from a foot and having two horizontal handles disposed symmetrically, although many variants of the shape do exist. Their primary use was for the consumption of wine during symposia and, especially during the Classical period, many were decorated with scenes of a humorous or sexual nature.
