A band on inside of mouth and one at base of neck; U shaped band on handle; on belly a very broad band framed by two narrow ones; band at junction between lower body and base.

Acquisition

The Asine Collection was brought to Sweden in 1930. It was first kept in the National Museum and then, in 1954, it was permanently transferred the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities.

Urval Galleriet.; A lekythos (pl. lekythoi) is generally a taller, cylindrical vessel with a small, deep mouth, narrow neck and a single handle. However, many variants of the shape do exist, including the rounded, squat form and the ovoid “Deianeira” form, all in various sizes. They were used for the storage of oils and are especially associated with funerary contexts. Towards the end of the fourth century BC they were functionally replaced by the unguentaria.
