Object description

Dansmask av skuret och bemålat trä. Masken är en halvmask utan underkäke. Masken är målad mörkbrun och har snidade rynkor i pannan.

Masken föreställer troligtvis en penasar. En komisk clown-figur med talroll.

"Penasar-interpreters of the pantomime topeng. As the topeng masks that cover the whole face are always silent and only act with gestures, the penasar, who speak Javano-Balinese and Balinese and whose masks only cover half of their faces, have particular significance as communicators of courtly and Brahmanic ideas. As they spice their didactic presentation with humorous interludes, they are among the best-loved figures on the balinese stage." (Ramseyer, Urs. 1977. s.218)
