- Object description
"Another speciality of the smiths of Kusamba and Klungkung was the encrusting of parts of the keris, knives and nut-scissors with gold and silver wire. To do this the smith first glued the iron to be worked with resin glue (gegala) and then engraved the design into the metal with various small chisels. By cutting small teeth into the lines, he made sure the the encrusted wire would not slip out later. Then a blunt chisel was used to hammer the gold and silver wire into the indentations. Encrusted parts are found in the head and scale parts of snake-shaped keris ornaments and in combined swastika motifs (banji) on ceremonial knives as well as on attractive anthropomorfic and zoomorphic scissors (caket) used to cut the hard areca nuts (pinang), an indispensable part of the betel chew (basé, sedah)."(Ramseyer, Urs. 1977. s.65)
Skador:
Silverinläggningarna har delvis nötts bort.
