Object description

Brev och brevhållare som användes av budet under transporteringen. Brevet är handskrivet på ett linjerat papper som är lite fläckigt och skadat i ena hörnet. Hållaren består av en pinne med en skåra i ena änden där brevet sitter fastkilat. Ett snöre håller ihop den snittade delen och håller brevet på plats.

Det odaterade brevets mottagare är pastor Jonas Iwarsson själv. Här följer en översättning från tigrinja till engelska gjort av Berehe T. Berhan, 28/5-98:

"Sent to Emebet (Mistress) Le¿..

Our beloved Mistress; we have heard the good news that you have delivered well and we are very happy. You have overcome the severe labour well. Therefore, our hearts are full of happiness and we praised our God. We are happy that you managed to go through that severe pain well and survived that deadly labour. We are also glad that you, Master Ivarsson, are happy and we share your happiness. Let us thank and praise God. Let the happiness be pure and complete. And let the baby grow in grace and good health; let it be blessed. Amen.

Heartily greetings from Tekle and family to our Master Ivarsson."
