Son till direktör Nils Eric Vilén och Greta Magni. Gjorde studieresor i USA och Kanada 1946-1947. Gift med Britta Sundkuist (1914-). Anställd vid Pensionskassan SPP och då boende i Djursholm. Far till Karin (1944-), Ingrid (1945-) och Ulla (1948-)
Gift igen 10/4 1967.
