- Object description

To be more specific, this is a shrine with Shiva and Parvati worshipping the lingam. Shiva holds a trident and a small drum; Parvati holds an offering plate. It is probably from Maharashtra or Madhya Pradesh, and probably from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Similar examples are in the collections of the Ethnological Museum in Berlin, the Indian Museum in Kolkata, and the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris has multiple examples.Magnus Johansson (National Museums of World Culture)2021-01-05 08:24
