Object description

Klubba, "waddy" av trä, med tre längsgående fåror. Den australiska infödingen skiljer sig ej gärna från sin "Daddy", vilken han använder på mångahanda sätt, t.ex. som vapen, som uppfostringsredskap för sina hustrur o.s.v. Orig.nr. 510.

Är snarare ett jordbruksredskap, grävkäpp/digging stick som användes av kvinnor. Information kompletterad av Miriam Troon (senior Curator Indigenous Collections & Community Engagement, Humanities Department Museum Victoria, Melbourne)

According to comment (2025) this could be from New South Wales: "The proximal end of the club and the long grooves along the side suggest this object is from New South Wales. This would be more in keeping with the travels of Bystrom in that colony."

Byström, Gustaf Herman Emil (1824-03-12 - 1894-07-15), lotsålderman, sjökapten

Beskrivning: Gustaf Herman Emil Byström, född 12 mars 1824, Stockholm, död 15 juli 1894, Stockholm, sjökapten. År 1854 blev han "Sailing master" i engelska flottans under Charles Napiers befäl och arbeta på båtar i Östersjön. Under åren 1855-1859 var han befälhavare på det 2 år gamla skeppet "Maria Augusta'' och seglade bland annat till Brasilien, Ostindien och Australien. År 1859 reste han genom "Torres strait" och ''Kings passage" från Sydney till Batavia. Skeppet lär han angripits av Australiens urinvånare.
Han avlade lotsexamen och blev så småningom överlots 1881. Han var även en flitig skribent och skrev bland annat i Nya Dagligt Allehanda och i Stockholms Dagblad.
Han hade tre bröder, bland annat professor O. Byström. Han var gift med Emma Sofia Westin (född 1935). De bodde på Bränkyrkagatan 3 vid hans död.
