Dotter till överste Erik von Vietinghoff-Riesch och Emelie Malmberg. Fil kand Stockholm 1963, Inst för

Internationell Ekonomi 1964-65, SIDA 1966, Unesco, Marocko 1971-1972. Hon gifte sig med Bengt Svensson (född 1930) 1972. Svenska ambassaden i Luanda 1979-1983, Svenska ambassaden i Nairobi 1987. Har varit verksam i Afghanistan och Pakistan. Syster till Regina (född 1941).

Karin har donerat föremål till Östasiatiska museet 2021.
