"The whales tooth is a sacred symbol to Fiji. It has been used as a form of currency for trading in the early centuries and continues to be relevant as a symbol of unity, reconciliation and scared to Fiji and traditional power customs. The Deputy Prime Minister is curious about whether you might have a collection of whales teeth as many Norwegians travelled to Fiji and particular the island of Vanua Levu and Lau group of islands to hunt for whales which are now extinct in our part of the world. The whales tooth became the sacred symbol of this extinction and which we preserve and protect today from what we indigenous Fijian’s have protected." /Grace Maharaj i mejl till SMVK 2023-05-10
