Object description: Ostracon, fragment of a plaque, originally measuring about 10x14 cm. Sketches and inscriptions in black on both sides. On one side is a fragmentary drawing of the hieroglyph/scarab for “heart”, with an inscription in five lines, with chapter 30 from The Book of the Dead. The name and title mentioned in the text belongs to the Draughtsman of Amun Nb-r. A man by that name and title is mentioned in other sources which places him in 19th dynasty Deir el-Medina (see comments below). On the reverse is a sketch of an ushebti, facing right. In seven horizontal lines is an inscription from chapter 6 in the Book of the Dead.

Ostrakon, fragment av en plakett som ursprungligen mätt ungefär 10x14 cm. Skisser och inskriptioner i svart på båda sidor. På den ena sidan finns en fragmentarisk teckning av en hieroglyf/skarabé för "hjärta", med en inskription i fem rader med kapitel 30 från Dödsboken. Namnet och titlarna som nämns i texten tillhör tecknaren Amun Nb-r. En man med det namnet och titel är omnämnd i en annan källa som placerar honom i 19e dynastin Deir el-Medina (se comments). På den andra sidan finns en teckning av en ushebti, vänd åt höger. I sju horisontella linjer finns en inskription från kapitel 6 i Dödsboken.

Gayer-Anderson, Robert Grenville

Description: Robert Grenville Gayer-Anderson, Major, after qualifying as a Doctor at Guy's Hospital, became an officer in the Royal Army, Medical Corps. He received his commission in the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1903. He was lent to the Egyptian Government in 1905 by the British Government and spent the rest of his carrier in service of Egypt, in both military and civil capacities, reaching the rank of "Lewa" (Major General) and having the title of Pasha conferred upon him. He collected Egyptian objects of great significance. They are preserved in Gayer-Anderson Pasha museum in Cairo. He is the author of "Legends of the Bait al-Kretliya" (Luzac, London) and Christeros, poems (Wilding, Shrewsbury). He died in Lavenham in 1945. (www.indianminiature.org, 2012-08-31)
