MM 18808 :: jar, vessel

Object description: A broad jar with a bulging body, tapering at the mouth and a flat base. It has an introverted ledge rim, in which four holes have been drilled. The vessel did once have a lid. Iron red surface with an exterior decoration in maroon. The motifs are peculiar. Immediately below the rim is a series of hills, semi-circumscribing the vessel. It is interrupted however by three, four figures which elude description. Below the hills, there is a lattice pattern motif. Additionally, below and circumscribing the upper body are several rows of irregular horizontal lines. One vertical line cuts through these and on the top of it is a bird like figure. The decoration on this vessel may be a forgery.
