jar

- Object description
- A jar with a piriform body, modelled rim, three loop handles below the rim and a ring base. Grey brown surface, smoothed. It has a string tied around the upper part of the vessel, and it is filled with to the brim with knuckle bones or astragali. According to the Swedish archaeologist Richard Holmgren, some of the astragali exhibit traces of red paint and worn down sides, which would point to them being used as dies or as tools in "fortune telling". Three astragali have short notches on the over side, indicating some sort of numbering or other form of identification.
