Object description

Cartonnage inner coffin for the mummy of a woman called Isisirdis, lady of the house, daughter of Tjaamunu. The texts on the coffin says that she was the daughter of a brewer and that she was married.

Anthropoid inner bivalve coffin, representing the deceased wearing a tripartite wig, with a fillet, decorated in polychrome. The lid has a broad collar, with superposed crossed red braces. Below this is a winged solar ram, facing left, the tail and legs being flanked by vignettes of Osiris, backed by a white-crowned cobra, adored by one (left) and two (right) female figures.

The next register is dominated by a solar raptor with spread wings, beneath which are disposed the Four Sons of Horus, two under each wing. The succeeding register has a mummified raptor in the centre, flanked by a pair of raptors with wings stretched out in front of them.

Beneath this, an Osiris-fetish extends down the centre of the lid to the ankles, flanked on each side by two registers, as follows:

L.I Thoth and Nephthys.

R.I Horus and Isis.

L.II Ram-headed Re-Horakhty and cobra-headed deity.

R.II Thouris and crocodile-headed deity.

The upper surface of the feet has five columns of text, flanked by a pair of recumbent jackals. The foot-end is in the form a pedestal.

The top of the head of the lid and trough is decorated with XXXXXX. Polychrome stripes extend along the sides of the trough, whose back-column bears a djed-pillar atop a tjet-sign, with a sun-disk with a pair of cobras, with pendant ankh-signs, plus the phrase nb-pt [Lord of the Sky] above it. On the back of both shoulders is the phrase tp-Dr.f [Upon his Mountain], below which extends a lotus-headed sceptre, topped with a plumed solar disk, resting on a shen-sign and with a three pairs of menat-symbols hanging from it. Below the sceptres are bearded snakes and finally was-sceptres with ankhs on top.

The lid was fixed to the trough by four tongues on each side of the fitting into corresponding slots in the trough.

Kartonnage innerkista för mumien av en kvinna vid namn Isisirdis, husets härskarinna, dotter till Tjaamunu. Texterna på kistan berättar att hon var dotter till en bryggare och att hon var gift.

Antropoid, inre tvådelad kista som representerar den döda som bär en tredelad peruk, med ett hårband, dekorerat i många färger. Locket har en bred krage med röda överlagda spännen. Nedanför detta finns en bevingad solär gumse, vänd åt vänster, stjärten och benen flankerade av vignetter av Osiris, bakom finns en kobra med vita kronan dyrkad av en (vänster) och två (höger) kvinnofigurer.

Nästa register domineras av en solär rovfågel med utspridda vingar under vilka finns de fyra Horus-sönerna, två under vardera vingar. I nästa register finns en mumifierad rovfågel i mitten, flakerad av ett par rovfåglar med vingar utsträckta framför dem.

Under detta, en Osiris-fetish som sträcker sig nedför mitten av locket till anklarna, flankerad på vardera sida av två register, som följer:

V.I Thoth och Nefthys.

H.I Horus och Isis.

V.II Gumsehövdad Re-Horakhty och kobrahövdad gudom.

H.II Taweret och krokodilhövdad gudom.

Den övre ytan av fötterna har fem kolumner av text, flankerad av ett par liggande sjakaler. Fotändan är i form av en piedestal.

Överdelen av huvudet på locket och tråget är dekorerat med XXXXXX. Ränder i många färger sträcker sig längs sidorna av tråget vars ryggpelare bär en djed-pelare ovanpå ett tjet-tecken, med en solskiva med ett par kobror, med hängande ankh-tecken samt frasen nb-pt [Himlens herre] ovanför. På baksidan av axlarna finns frasen tp-Dw.f [Ovanpå sitt berg] nedan vilken utbreder sig en lotus-hövdad stav, toppad med en befjädrad solskiva som vilar på ett shen-tecken och med tre par menat-symboler som hänger från den. Nedanför stavarna finns ormar med skägg och slutligen was-stavar med ankh-tecken ovanpå.

Locket var fixerat med tråget genom fyra tappar på vardera sida om infattningen in i motsvarande uttag i tråget.

Anastasi, Giovanni

Description: Giovanni Anastasi (1765–1860) was born to an Armenian family from Damascus. He established himself as a wealthy merchant and antiquarian. Anastasi served as a Swedish-Norwegian Consul General from 1828 until his death. He sold large collections of antiquities -- to the Dutch government in 1828, now in the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, including the Ipuwer Papyrus; another collection -- to the British Museum in 1839, and another to the French in 1857. In 1839, the British Museum acquired from Anastasi's collection ostracon of Sinuhe.

Egypten, 1982-2012

Description: The Egyptian exhibition shows various aspects of life in Pharaonic Egypt from 3000 BC to the Christian era. There are also many objects from the prehistoric period, starting around 5000 BC. Most of the objects came to Sweden in the late 19:century, and have been donated to the museum from private collections.
The Egyptian Exhibition contains, in addition to mummified humans, also mummies of cats, birds, fishes and snakes. The Goddess Isis with the child Horus in her lap meets the visitors as they enter the exhibition. The pose she holds occurs commonly in western art where the Virgin Mary with the child Jesus often is portrayed in the same position.
A portrait of the well-known pharaoh Sesostris was donated to Sweden by the Egyptian government in recognition both of Swedish participation when the Assuan-dam was built and of professor Torgny Säve-Söderbergh as an internationally well-known Egyptologist. (www.medelhavsmuseet.se, 2010-09-01)
The exhibition was made already in 1982. In 2002 there was a change, several of the galleries (4-8) on the upper floor were closed.

Mummy of the woman Isisirdis, who lived during the seventh century BC. The torn wrappings by the face witness to an attempt to unwrap the mummy at some point in the nineteenth century. She is resting in her inner coffin made of cartonnage.
