- Object description
- White-ground lekythos. Cup mouth; tall, narrow neck with concave profile; ridge around neck top; moulding at junction between neck and shoulder; tapering shoulder, sharply set off from body; vertical, sliced handle from neck to shoulder; cylindrical body, tapering towards base; tall disc base with groove around upper edge; concave bottom with central nipple. Red clay; red ochre wash; black glaze; semilustrous, whitish slip; matt, red, brown and grey paint. Inside and outside of mouth (except top), handle, lower body and base top black; shoulder and most part of body white; two palmette fans and scrolls on shoulder (almost erased); meander between horizontal bands on body above frieze; on body opposite handle grave stele flanked by two women: the one to the right dressed in red, holding a fillet in her hands, the one to the right dressed in a white and red chiton, holding a box with offerings, two fillets hanging down from the box; base line below figures; groove above base
