Object description: Cup mouth with everted rim; narrow neck; cylindrical body, tapering downwards; tall disc base in two degrees. Light red clay; black glaze. Outside of mouth and handle painted; on shoulder one row of bars and one of rays; a thin band around outermost part of shoulder; right below on one side of body double row of dots between narrow bands; on body opposite handle Athena driving a quadriga and a human figure (?) below the horses; below two reserved bands; lower body and base top painted; lowest part of base painted.

Urval Galleriet. Äldre bilder A.Stalteri Marcus. M. Sjöblom.; A lekythos (pl. lekythoi) is generally a taller, cylindrical vessel with a small, deep mouth, narrow neck and a single handle. However, many variants of the shape do exist, including the rounded, squat form and the ovoid “Deianeira” form, all in various sizes. They were used for the storage of oils and are especially associated with funerary contexts. Towards the end of the fourth century BC they were functionally replaced by the unguentaria.
