Object description: Seated woman, wearing a blue and pink chiton and a himation of same colours that covers her head and body down to the knees; she sits on a rock (?) with crossed legs, only one foot visible; her head and upper body are turned to the right, she holds up her right hand under the himation, while the left one is completely hidden; on the backside part of the himation hangs down and there is a square opening in the ‘rock’; mounted on a roughly rectangular, perforated base. Brown clay; white, blue and pink paint.

Figurin av en ung flicka som sitter på en klippa, med sin långa chiton hopdragen kring benen och med överkroppen insvept i en mantel, som även dragits upp kring huvudet, vars hållning tyder på att figuren kan ha varit grupperad med en annan statyett.

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. Comments

Greek work, probably from Athens. The modern city of Kerch is built around the ruins of the ancient Greek city known as Panticapaeum (Pantikapaion in Greek), founded in the late 7th or early 6th century BC. The city imported pottery, terracottas, and metal objects from workshops in Rhodes, Corinth, Samoa, and Athens. The Athenians even manufactured a special type of bowl for the city, known as Kerch ware.
