Bergsten collection 27 :: sculpture, statue

Object description: Standing Apollo with curved body, the weight of his body on the right leg; he leans his left arm on the trunk of a tree, which also serves as a support for the rest of the statue; he has long, curly hair, tied up on the back of his head and fastened with a fillet. The type is known as the Apollo Sauroktonos ("Apollo the Lizard-killer"). These Roman marble sculptures are copies of a Greek bronze original by Praxiteles, made c. 350 BC.
