Object description: Tanagra figurine of a woman standing on thin rectangular base; weight placed on right foot, left foot (painted red) sticking out under the garment; chiton with himation worn tightly; head tilted forward to her right; hair parted and bound together in a knot on the back of the head, traces of red paint in hair; right hand on hip and left hand holding the drapery tight; finely modelled folds of drapery; she wears shoes; back roughly modelled, square vent (ø 2.8 x 1.8). Light brown clay.

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics.
