- Object description
Mouldmade lamp; long oval body with a barely differentiated nozzle.
A raised rim surrounds the undecorated discus and extends along the top of the body to enclose the wick-hole producing a channel between the wick-hole and the filling-hole. Round filling-hole, somewhat asymmetrically placed; oval wick-hole. The body is carinated, the upper part of which has a moulded decoration (a serpent ?). Vertical handle in rear, with slightly profiled surface. Inward sunk round base with a moulded mark in the centre of a star (*) or perhaps, PX (Greek letters) in a ligature. Pale-brownish clay, dark brown slip, traces after use on wick-hole.
