lamp

- Object description
- Mouldmade lamp; oval body more pointed at the nozzle end. A rim surrounds the decorated discus and extends to enclose the wick-hole area, producing a channel between the large wick-hole and the filling-hole. At the rear there is an unpierced, triangular handle. Around a sunken filling-hole in the centre of the discus, there is two roes of notches like a rosette, which are surrounded with two concentric grooves. On the rounded shoulders there are sunken lines of stylised palm branches. The slightly raised base is concave within and has a large branch pattern in relief. The base-ridge continues in two lines towards the handle, forming tree grooves which are extending also towards the handle. Brick-reddish clay and slip. Traces after use on wick-hole.
