lamp
- Object description
- Mouldmade lamp; circular body with convex profile; slightly raised base, surrounded with a groove. The nozzle has a slightly angular tip and shoulder volutes. At the rear a vertical, ring-handle with two grooves on the upper part of its edge. Sloping, wide shoulder with inward-sloping rim (Loesckcke Typus VI.a). Concave discus with slightly asymmetrically located opening. On the discus is depicted a gladiatorial combat, likely between a Murmillo (right) and either a Thraex or Hoplomachus (left, the usual pairings with a Murmillo). The combatant on the left is already on his knees. Light-reddish clay and finger-marked, light-brownish slip.
