- Object description
- Lekanis with lid. Bowl with a recess for the lid and two heavy bandhandles placed horizontally. Bowl is carinated and slopes towards broad ringbase. Lip has a broad edge and a sloping wall towards the profiled and stemmed knob. On the flat surface of the know is a depression. The bowl is decorated with a stylized palmette pattern between handles. Otherwise black glazed apart from a reserved area on ringbase. Lid has a stylized ovolo pattern on vertical part and a figured scene on sloping upper side superposed by a reserved area around know filled with dots in diluted paint. Knob is black on the edges but has a ovolo pattern around central depression. The figured scene shows four women and and erote. the erote is turned towards the right carrying a fan. the first woman sits on an alter turned to the left with an object in her right hand and the left raised, the next woman is moving towards the right looking back and carrying a ches and a patterned textile in her right hand, an alabastron and a band in her left. The third woman also sits on an altar turning her face to the right raising her left arm. the last woman moves towards the right and looks back; she carries a chest, a floral band and a broader textile band in her right, an alabastron, a flower band and a textile band in her left. Alle woman wears chitons. The scene might allude to a weeding scene.
