- Object description
- Ear-ring in shape of a cylindrical gold strip, of the ”a baule”-type. The front panel of the cylinder is decorated with a central many-petalled rosette of gold foil and granulation, eight four-petal flowers, fifteen small flower-cups, and four corner rosettes, each consistning of a similar flower-cup surrounded by radiating plain wires and a circle of one plain end one rope wire. The ends of the cylinder are open. The suspending wire, hinged and fastened between small tubes on the upper edge of the cylinder, is masked by a piece of stamped gold sheet representing an erect pinecone between two winged sphinxes, couched in opposite directions, with tails of strip-twisted wire, each coiled into a spiral punctuated by a globule. Other globules are placed along the base of the stamped pattern and at the centre of the four-petal flowers and the central rosette. The back panel is framed by a stamped tongue pattern and has along the middle of a row of stylized lily-cup spirals of beaded wire, between two borders of similar wire.
