NM 0561/1921 :: sphero-conical vessel

Object description: Moulded shpero-conical body, rounded shoulder, thick rounded neck. Thick dark brown fabric on surface. The body divided is by incisions into six stamped panels alternately showing a line of three four-petaled flowers and a panel filled with a stamped pattern, giving a scale-like impression. Ring on shoulder stressing the separation shoulder-neck.

Object description: The function of this particular type of vessel is unknown, but many possible functions have been proposed, including fire-blowers (aeolipiles), grenades, flasks, lamps, loom-weights and architectural ornaments.
