ÖM 166/69 :: Tile
- Object description
Tile, originally rectangular, moulded stonepaste with turquoise glaze, figures have soft contours and look quite plastic. Two registers, the upper register, slightly projecting, looks as a succession of animals. The lower register, the main scne shows a rider on the right side confronting a creature ressembling to an elephant. The rider, dressed in the persian style, with a caftan and a turban, puts a finger on his mouth in astonishement. His horse lifts his right leg and his head. The “elephant” with his long trunk inclines his head in front of the rider. It looks as if two miniature-people are climbing the elephants back from behind.
Mounted in a wooden frame.
