Exhibition - Current

Egypten, 2014-

Description: The history of Egypt is long, from the first settlements in the Nile Valley around 7000 years ago to the present day. Egypt was for a long period of time ruled by autocratic kings – the pharaohs. At other times, it was part
of larger empires such as the Persian, Roman and Ottoman.
The pharaonic culture was characterised by high conservatism.
Things were – and should be – as they always had been.
Old traditions and ways of thinking lived on, long after the last pharaohs.
They were present in the customs and traditions of the Middle Ages and are present in Egypt today.
Welcome on a walk through the history of Egypt!

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics. Other booths highlights the thematic elements of the ancient world: the subject of everyday and festive, and images of gods, humans and animals. Important to know about the information in the online collection database

Users of the database are warned that some records may include language or terminology dating from the 19th and 20th centuries which depicted people in ways that are obsolete and/or offensive. We are conscious that the inclusion of such terminology is problematic. As an institution, we have chosen to include this historic information in our database because it is part of the documentation for the object, photograph, or archival item. Where known, objects associated with, or photographs depicting, ritual or ceremonial activity have been hidden in the publicly accessible database as there may be restrictions relating to the age, gender, initiation and ceremonial status or clan of the person who may see them. The database may also include the names of deceased persons, which could cause sadness or distress, particularly to relatives of these people.
