NM 0800/1922 :: Fragment, Bowl
- Object description
Fragment of a deep rounded bowl, ring base with squared foot and deepened well; rim sherd: plain hemispherical profile, pinched slightly flanged rim. Dense dull orange fabric, medium consistency, fine grey grits. White tin opacified glaze interior with blue in glaze painting, exterior seems to have white slip to 1 to 2 cm above foot, covered in part by a transparent green (Pb?) glaze, i.e. as 199 but thicker walled; rim sherd exterior mostly covered in white slip (?) and half area glazed. Decoration: Interior in blue on white ground: spiral at centre, fine (vegetal) stems radiate out from this; rim sherd has thick parallel bands of blue and a band of "Z" shapes on white ground, in lower zone, Chinese influenced leaf motif (with tendrils projecting from a triangle shaped leaf ending in thick dots) in medallion and zone of cross-hatching with thick blue border; exterior three straight and one undulating band of blue.
Ware: Italian, Spanish or North African tin glazed (needs precision, but more likely Hafsid).
