one subadult: male/female?
- Object description
Most elements are represented when it comes to skeleton D, however in many cases broken, contrary to what is depicted on the tomb sketch. The skull and mandible is in fragments although virtually complete. The post-cranial skeleton is relatively complete, the left side only missing most of the humerus and fibula while the right side is missing most of the arm bones.
Most of the torso, including vertebrae, sternum, scapulae, collarbones and ribs, is present, as well as the pelvic girdle and sacrum. Most of the hands and feet are present. The auricular surface indicates an adult individual with an age at death estimation of 35-39 years old. The dental wear suggests an age of between 25 and 35 years at death. The sex estimation was attempted using the coxae and suggests a probable male, but it is not entirely conclusive. Adding the measurements of the femoral and humeral heads, however, gave further indication that this was a male. An estimation of stature using the left femur suggests height of about 173cm.
The grave goods associated with skeleton D is a fragmented comb (29), fragments of a wooden toilet box (15) and a faience bottle (14). A basket near the head of skeleton D might also belong to it. This basket contained a cylindrical juglet (19), an alabaster juglet (25), a faience bottle (26), fragments of two combs (27-28) and a bone inlay from a toilet box (24).
On the pelvis there were traces of flesh and two leather strips lay between the legs, perhaps the remains of a belt. A group of vessels (16-18) might belong to either skeleton D or G (Kenyon 1960:473). Hietanen, Linnea, p. 19-20
