- Olof Vessberg was director of the Cyprus Collections 1945-1953. Director of the Swedish Instute in Rome 1953-1955. When The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities was established, Vessberg became its first director, from its inception until 1970. He started the publishing of Medelhavsmuseet Bulletin, the scientific journal of the museum, in 1961. He founded the Medelhavsmuseets vänförening (Society of friends of the Medelhavsmuseet) in 1966. He was secretary of the Swedish Archaeological Society. Professor of Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at Stockholm University from 1970.
