The Ayia Irini research project (2011 - 2017) :: 2011
- Object description
The project, 2011 – 2017, was led by two post-doctoral researchers, Christian Mühlenbock and Giorgos Bourogiannis. The aim of the project was to encourage a new and more interdisciplinary research of the Cyprus Collections at Medelhavsmuseet and thus, pave the way for fresh perspectives and approaches.
With the support of The A G Leventis Foundation, the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, the Bank of Sweden Tencentary Foundation, the National Museum of World Culture launched a new research programme with the aim of making way for a new perspective and approach to the Cyprus Collections at Medelhavsmuseet in Stockholm. The Cyprus Collections originate from the Swedish Cyprus Expedition (SCE) 1927 - 1931 and constitute a central part of today's modern Cypriot archaeology. The collections include around 13,000 antiquities to which should be added a ceramic material of several thousand shards. (www.varldskulturmuseerna.se, 2013-06-13)
