- Statues of the deceased person could function as substitute bodies for the soul of the deceased in case the real body was destroyed. Funerary gifts in the form of food and drink kept the ka of the deceased person alive. Signs of prestige and status, such as titles and various sticks and staffs were important components of the burial.
