Egypten 1.9 :: Maces and war
- Object description
The development from small villages to a unified state was not always peaceful. Peaceful collaborations were probably entered intoin terms of agriculture, irrigation and defence measures. However, many fights were fought over power and territories.
Mace heads of stone have been found in various locations. These were put on a wooden handle and used as deadly weapons. The first mace heads were flat and shaped as discs. However, towards the end of the Predynastic period, the predominant design was rounder and more pear-shaped. Over time, the mace heads served an increasingly ceremonial function and were often used as funerary objects in temples and graves.
