A grave from the First Dynasty

- Object description
A number of large burial grounds were located on the outskirts of Memphis, the new capital of Egypt. One of the largest, dating back to the Early Dynastic period, was located in an area that is now called Helwan, and now a suburb of Cairo. Many of the graves in these burial grounds belonged to the highest-ranking officials of the New Kingdom of Egypt.
The remains of the woman resting in this the display cabinet were found in one of the graves. Funerary objects such as pots of ceramic, slate and alabaster, a flint scraper and jewellery surround the woman. The woman was aged between 45 and 60 when she died. She had not been very muscular and hence, was probably part of the upper class that never had to engage in any hard physical worklabor.
