This pedestal jar has a wide mouth and flaring neck. The shoulder is flat and slopes down to a rounded belly on a pedestal with five equidistant cut-out rectangles. The foot was added as a separate piece. Protruding bands encircle the vessel - one on the neck, two thirds up from the shoulder to the mouth, and two at the joint line of the neck and the shoulder. Three impressed lines encircle the the shoulder where it meets the belly. Bands of wavy lines adorn the neck and the belly. The lower half of the body (including the base) bears the marks from beating with a cord-wrapped paddle as a means to shape the vessel. In other areas the surface appears to have been refined on a wheel. The walls of the jar have blistered up in several locations. Some of the small blisters have burst. Moss dark-green ash glaze covers the surface and is especially thick on the shoulder.
Long-necked jars of high-fired stoneware were produced in both the Silla Kingdom and the Gaya Confederacy from the 4th century and are one of the most common types of pottery found in Silla and Gaya tombs. Long-necked jars can be roughly divided into jars raised on a pedestal with openwork decoration, and jars with a flattened or round base that were sometimes placed on separate stands with a cradle. The shape of jars and length of the neck varies, and in some cases, they are paired with lids. Decoration includes decorative bands and patterns of incised wavy lines. Long-necked jars might have been used as daily household vessels, however, the vessels found in tombs are likely to have served as ceremonial vessels for holding offerings in the form of consumable liquids, such as alcohol, or foodstuffs, probably types of grains, for the deceased.
