Object description

Skål av lackerat trä. Skålen har två utställda handtag och är skadad på ena sidan där skålväggen tryckts in. Runt foten finns små knappt läsbara kinesiska tecken inristade i lacken.

Enlig HM-kort: Oval skål m. 2 långsträckta handtag. Ristad inskription utvändigt runt foten.

Material: Lack, utvänd. grönbrunt, invänd. rödbrunt.

Tillverkningsort: Sichuan.

Närmare tidsbestämning: 42 e. Kr. f.

Enligt katalogkort: “Korean lacquer bowl. Period: Han. Provenience: Ssu-Ch’uan. Description: Of oval shape with two horizontal handles. Interior reddish brown with two characters on bottom. Exterior greenish brown; on base, around foot, an inscription (B. Karlgren’s translation) telling that the object was made in the province of Shu (nowadays Ssu-Ch’uan) during the period of Kien Wu the 18th year (28 or 42 AD). The rest illegible. Measures: L. 175mm, W. 88mm, H. 52mm. Bequest of King Gustaf VI Adolf, No 1914.”
