Object description

Penselvas (bitong) av elfenben, från Kina. Hela vasens utsida är dekorerad med utskurna mönster i relief föreställande scen med paviljong och figurer. Bottenplattan lös.

Enligt katalogkort: “Chinese ivory brushholder. Period: Ming, perhaps 15th century. Description: The irregularly cylindrical sides deeply carved with a group of 6 scholars seated and standing beside a table set with bowls, on a carpet in a garden pavaillion. Two serving boys at one side, and 3 elderly visitors approaching in front of another serving boy fron under the trees of the rocky garden landscape. Elaborate clouds carved below the plain rim. Measures: H. 126mm, D. 95mm. Purchased: Bequest of H.M. King Gustaf VI Adolf. No 2596. Dossier: Expo: BM, London 1972, No 170.”
