Almost certainly stones used to play Go. Igo in Japanese and Wei-qui in Chinese. While Japanese stones are typically rounded on both sides, Chinese stones are typically flat on one side. They may be made from any substance but older stones are often actual stone. White stone can be different types but Black stones are typically slate. Japanese stones are traditionally Slate and Giant Clam shell. The stones can be very flat and only a few millimetres thick or very rounded but still not spheroid.
