Object description

Polykromt lerkärl. Höjd: 14,8 cm.

Största bredd: 16,5 cm. Kärlet är bl. a. dekorerat med två röda fåglar med svarta konturer. Fåglarna har en vinge vardera och två stjärtfjädrar. Fågelmotivet är mycket vanligt hos zianderna och föreställer den heliga

vattenfågeln, vilken anses framkalla vatten och liv. Clara Lee Tanner skriver i Southwest Indian Craft Arts sid. 103: "There is considerable variety of design in Zia pottery. Perhaps the most distinctive is a lively bird which has a great single or double wing coming out of its back and three sweeping tail feathers. Two of these birds may appear on a jar, sometimes with a wide band curving over each one." Ett idet närmaste indentiskt föremål finns avbildat i Indian pottery of the Southwest, Post Spanish Period plate nr. 9 c.
