Para ti Mamá, “For you, mama,” and Carino Mio, “My love,” are some of the texts found on the bordados that belonged to migrants trying to go north into the USA. The beautifully embroidered pieces of fabric were probably given as gifts and used to wrap stores of food.
Victims of migration in the borderlands, whether in the Sonoran Desert or the Mediterranean Sea, often end up as anonymous statistics. Behind every statistic number, are always a fate and an individual history, which sometimes is forever lost.
