Object description

18,5 cm lång lusräfsa av trä. Orig.nr. Y4. Inga övriga uppgifter av samlaren. Enligt det för nr 1 i sml. citerade arbetet av Petrullo, p. 213 "an implement that is in great vogue is the delousing tool shown in plate 20,2. The serrated end is used as a comb to expose the lice,

which are seized between the fingers and crushed between the teeth. The pointed end is employed to crush blisters raised on the body by mosquito bites (enligt bildtexten uppgiften utvidgad till .."to crush the blister raised by various insects"). These tools, also fashioned by the men, are used exclusively by the women to groom their menfolk and each other."

Beskrivning: Gustaf Bolinder var författare, etnograf, forskningsresande. Professor 1935 -36 vid univ. i Bogotá, Colombia. Expedition i Colombia jan. - maj 1935. Känd framför allt genom sina resor i Sydamerika, där han besökt Colombia och Venezuela för studier av olika indianstammars liv och insamling av etnografika. Drsavhandling "Ijca-indianernas kultur" (1918). Skrivit en rad reseskildringar om sina upplevelser i Sydamerika. Resor dit 1914-16, 1920-21, 1935-36, 1936-37 och 1942.
B. var även en beprövad Afrikaresenär. Marocko 1925 och 1929, Sierra Leone och Nigeria 1930-31, Liberia 1938. Även skrivit en rad andra böcker i etnografiska och kulturhistoriska ämnen samt utgivit talrika böcker för ungdom. /US
