- Object description
Cirkulär skiva av trä vars ena sida har formen av en låg kon. Den andra släta sidan har repor och är sliten. Spår av röd färg i träet. Diameter 12,5 cm. Användes i ett spel. gammalt exemplar som redan varit i bruk. Av de infödda kallad tupe.
Originalnr 28. Om det spel som avses se: Peter H. Buck: Arts and crafts of the Cook Islands. B.P. Bishop Museum Bull. 179, 1944, 99. 254ff. Bl.a.a: "A pitching game (tupe), somewhat resembling the modern ship game of shuffle board, was played in Mangaia with circular discs of miro wood. The discs, also called tupe, had a flat bottom and thick circumferential edges, and the upper surface formed a low cone...They were pitched onto plaieted coconut-leaf mats (taúa) made of two strips of coconutleaf midrib from opposite sides of the same piece..."
