Object description: Horizontal, disc shaped rim; ovoid body, tapering towards rim; handle attachment (original) on upper body; rounded base; circular depression on bottom centre. Hard, buff clay; semilustrous, buff slip; semilustrous, brown to light brown and red paint. Two concentric circles on rim disc; traces of paint on rim edge; tongues of varying length below rim; body encircled by three broad, brown bands with superimposed red, spaces in between bands filled with rows of dots; bottom reserved.

Comments: An alabastron (pl. alabastra) is a long-bodied vessel, typically with a rounded bottom. It is usually without a handle, although some examples have short handles (or eyes or lugs) through which a string could be attached. The name is derived from alabaster, the white-ground stone that the earliest examples were carved from.
