Object description: Flat, horizontal rim; wide, concave neck; upper body bulging, lower body tapering downwards; raised, vertical band handle with slightly raised sides and reinforcing strut from rim to shoulder; flat base. Brownish to black impasto; burnished surface; plastic and incised decoration. Inside rim at handle attachment low ridge with rope pattern; rope pattern marking shoulder; on body three rounded knobs, surrounded by shallow depression; between knobs incised double-contoured rectangles, one filled in with two double-contoured rectangles and a cross formed by impressed dots, two filled in with a St. Andrew’s cross and impressed dots (one rectangle missing).

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics.
