Object description: Broad, moulded rim; narrow, concave neck; moulding at base of neck; piriform body; one flattened, vertical handle from neck to shoulder and two horizontal, canted handles below shoulder; flaring ring base; central nipple on underside. Red clay; black glaze, partly misfired. Mouth, upper part of neck and handles black; black tongues on neck; on shoulder a row of blobs between bands; on body a large owl flanked by scrolls; below vertical handle a large palmette; most part of underside reserved.

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics. Other booths highlights the thematic elements of the ancient world: the subject of everyday and festive, and images of gods, humans and animals.
