Object description: Owl skyphos (glaux). Inverted rim; convex body, tapering downwards; one vertical handle from rim to mid-body and one horizontal below rim; ring base. Reddish brown clay; black glaze; red wash. A and B: an owl with round eyes, partly covered with dots, framed above and on both sides by olive twigs; below a reserve band; reserved band on resting surface; on the reserved underside two black circles and a central dot.

Study Gallery

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics.
