Object description: Woman standing on thin rectangular base with large vertical handle behind her back and above the head; weight on left foot, right knee protruding; draped in chiton and himation covering the whole body below the neck; weight head tilted to her left wearing a wreath; right hand on hip; left hand holding up a fold of the himation; white base-colour covering the whole figurine, traces of pink on handle, pink with white “löpande hund” decoration on edging of himation, blue on wreath and chiton, red on mouth and base; hollow bottom with fingerprints and circular vent in back (ø 1.7). Yellowish brown clay.

Description: Upstairs, in interaction with the Baghdad Cafe, opened in February 2009, the upper gallery. A rich variety of objects retrieved from the museum's storerooms, many of them shown for the first time. A series of booths filled to the brim with beautiful vases functions as a traditional study collection of ancient ceramics. Other booths highlights the thematic elements of the ancient world: the subject of everyday and festive, and images of gods, humans and animals. Comments

Probably the upper part of a funerary vase in the shape of a female head with the figurine on top. Such vases from Canosa are exhibited in the British Museum, London.
