Object description: Cast. Master of animals: anthropomorphic tube flanked by rampant animals. Two human faces on the tube, one at the top with "turban" (three ringed moulding) and large droop ears, and one at the center, both with prominent noses. Central figure with spindly arms sharply bent at elbows grasps the necks of the flanking beasts. Decor: double band necklace for top figure, double ridged moulding flares outward at waist of second figure. Beasts have long branching snouts (one broken), roosters' combs, long curving necks, and at the “elbows” pendant roosters' heads with downward curving beaks. Plain haunches, long tails curved over into loops at bottom / three rings around shaft for feet? Long base widens at bottom.

Arne, Ture J:son (1879-05-07 - 1965-08-02), archaeologist

Description: Ture Arne Johnson, born May 7, 1879 in Söderköping, died 2 August 1965, Swedish archaeologist.
PhD in Uppsala in 1914 with the thesis "La Suède et l'Orient, études sur les relations archéologiques de la Suède et de l'Orient pendant l'Age des Vikings". Arne's field of work was mainly the contacts between Scandinavia and the early Russia.

Description: Near Eastern Collections
Among the highlights in the Near Eastern collection, are the Bronze Age objects found by professor T Arne, during the Swedish excavations of 1932 in Shah Tepe in northeastern Iran.
The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities also has one of the world's largest and finest collections of ancient Persian bronzes from Bronze- and Iron Age Luristan(2700 BC – 650 BC.
From Mesopotamia the museum has a representative collection of cuneiform tablets and seals from Sumerian and Babylonian times.
A relief from the Northwest palace in Nimrud, built by the Assyrian king Assurnasirpal II and dated to 860 BC, can be seen at the museum. Across the relief is a long inscription that tells the story of the king and his achievements.
The Englishman Austin Henry excavated the relief in the 1840’s in Iraq and presented it to Queen Josephine of Sweden. She in turn donated it to The National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm for its opening in 1866.A copy of the original relief is on display for the time being at the museum. Conservation - Executed

Cleaning and conservation report. D-nr 16455013, 950108. Condition: thick crust of dense, clay/cement-like dirt, most likely from soil. Underneath, and partially mixed with it, is light green powdery corrosion. There are separate warts filled with bright, light green corrosion powder; it does not appear to be active corrosion. Under those layers there is rather smooth original surface, but it is dotted with lighter, powdery corrosion. Original surface corrosion has medium dark green/grey color. Treatment: cleaned mechanically with scalpel, small soft rotating bristle and steel brushes, under the magnification. Surface is slightly polished with bee's wax using small soft rotating brush.
